The STarStation data import add-in for Microsft Excel contains code in the form of an unsigned macro, and depending upon the Excel security settings warning messages may be displayed when Excel is launched.

The Excel security settings can be accessed via the Tools -> Macro menu option.

Excel has four security settings ranging from Low to Very High.

1) If the Excel security setting is Medium, each time Excel is launched the user is prompted to disable or enable any unsigned or non-trusted macros. The user should enable the STarStationImport.xla addin each time Excel loads if they intend to use the STarStation import add-in or follow the procedure outlined in step 4 below to trust all installed add-ins.

2) If the excel security setting is High a warning is displayed indicating that all macros (which will include STarStation Import Add-In) are disabled. To allow the add-in to function in Excel set the security level to medium or follow step 4) to trust all installed add-ins. Then shutdown and restart Excel to apply the security setting modification.

3) If the Excel security setting is Very High a warning is displayed indicating that all macros (which will includes the STarStation Import Add-In) are disabled. To allow the add-in to function, set the Excel level to Medium or follow step 4) to trust all installed add-ins. Then shutdown and restart Excel to apply the security setting modification.

4) To prevent the display of the above warning messages and you are confident that the excel workbook contains legitimate installed add-ins (Excel cannot distinguish between safe and unsafe add-ins) it is possible to specifiy that all installed add-ins are trusted.

To set excel to trust all installed add-Ins, display the Security dialog (see figure 1) and on the Trusted Publishers tab, ensure that the "Trust all installed add-ins and templates" checkbox is checked. Then click the OK button and close and restart Excel to allow the StarStation Imor Add-In to function.

If your StarStation data import Add-in does not work.

You may be running a version of Office that does not include Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Some organizations prefer to install Office with the VBA functionality disabled. If you use Office in this mode, certain add-ins and macros, including add-ins or macros created by third-party vendors, may not work. To find out whether you are running Office in VBA-less mode, contact your System Administrator or IT Professional.

STarStation requires Excel 2000 or more recent versions to operate correctly.
