Beads are 5.6µm in diameter and are slightly more dense than water. They will settle gradually and should be mixed prior to any pipetting step. Brief vortexing (15-20 seconds) is sufficient to disperse beads that have settled for a few minutes. Beads that have settled for several hours, will form small clumps. They can be dispersed via sonication in a water bath.

The Luminex 100/200 has a built in aspiration function that injects a few microlitres of sheath fluid before removing sample from a well.
