The New User Interface

The VenturiOne™ user interface is designed for ease of use; actions are grouped by function and options are more discoverable. The VenturiOne™\r\n user interface employs the latest Office 2007 look and feel. Microsoft has\r\n designed this new user interface to make things easy to find.

VenturiOne™ Workspace

The VenturiOne™ workspace is split into two areas; a previews area and a plots area.

The screen shot above shows the visualisation of VenturiOne™ workspace. - [Click the image for a larger view]

1. Previews area

On opening an LMD file, VenturiOne™ automatically lays out preview plots of all the parameters. This provides a fast and easy approach to the creation of plots for analysis. VenturiOne™ allows users to create plots by looking at the data, rather than having to create the plot then look at the data. It is the speed of VenturiOne™ that permits visualisation of all the parameters against each other. Manual compensation can be performed in the previews, just drag a population to adjust its compensation and it updates in real time! The gating of the Preview automatically updates depending on plot or region selection.

  • Preview of all parameters against each other
  • Can be gated
  • Apply quadrant regions
  • Automatically calculate or manually adjust compensation

2. The Plots Area

This is the area where the selected plots are displayed. All gating and analysis is done in the plots area.

Key features include:

  • Display of selected plots of interest
  • Application of gates and regions
  • Plots are colour coded to indicate gating
  • Colour Precedence displays allow tracking of populations across plots
  • Copy and paste selected plots to other applications

All plot selections, regions and gates can be saved within a workspace allowing easy reuse of all settings.

Results Table

The results table in VenturiOne™ lets you group your results by simply dragging and dropping columns. For instance if you want to organise the results by gate, just drag the gate column to the grouping box and all results will be grouped by gate. This is a multi-level display so you can create sub groups from here. The generated results table can be customised to display the statistics of choice. Each column within the results table represents a different attribute of a result. Each region created in the workspace generates a results row in the table.

Exporting

Getting the results out of software and into publication is important. VenturiOne™ has superb high quality image export and it is just so simple to use; you just copy and paste into PowerPoint, Word or your desired software package and the plots will be there. If you scale them up, they continue to look good. You don t have to crop the plots and add your own labels to make it look good in a paper. It already does. VenturiOne™ can also put out results into CSV files, with a variety of formats for the tables. In addition VenturiOne™ has XML export of statistics, which gives the ultimate flexibility in working with your other software or systems.

Compensation

Colour compensation is usually required whenever two or more fluorochromes are in use, this process can be difficult and time consuming in today's multi-colour environments. VenturiOne™ software includes a simple method for automatically calculating compensation coefficients for all your fluorchrome combinations. Compensation settings can be saved and reloaded at any point.

V-log option

The V-log display is an alternative to traditional logarithmic scaling of parameters. The V-log scale allows data previously not visible on the axis to be clearly seen and evaluated. This helps prevent overcompensation and identification of compensation artifacts.

Precedence order

The use of colour helps track populations across multiple plots and different parameters. Colour Precedence plots allows VenturiOne™ users to track multiple populations and to control the precedence order and colour of each population.

VenturiOne™ is a revolutionary off line flow cytometry analysis software package; using the latest software and 64bit multi-core hardware technologies to create an extreme system.

Multi-core and 64 bit technology

VenturiOne™ is available in 32 and 64 bit versions.

Why 64bit?

  • Higher end computers are now using 64bit processors, these systems run on their own version of Windows XP (or Windows Vista). This requires special design and implementation to support fully. VenturiOne™ has been created with this in mind.
  • The 64 bit operating systems will run older 32bit applications but software which fully supports 64bit systems will run faster.
  • These 64bit system processors can access much more data. 32 bit processors are limited to only 4GB and 32 bit programs typically only get to use 2GB of that.
  • As the 64bit environment takes over, less development will happen in the 32bit sector. VenturiOne™ is thus already poised to take advantages of further developments in the 64 bit arena while maintaining compatibility with the 32bit market.

By using US patent pending techniques we are able to optimise the use of multiple processors. Whether running on a 64 or 32bit system, on single or multi-core systems VenturiOne™ is designed to make maximum use of the hardware available and will analyse data faster than any currently available cytometry software.

Multi-core

VenturiOne™ is designed to be multi-core from the ground up, to make full use of the new generation of multi-core processors. Multi-core processors are now becoming mainstream, they are processors that have multiple CPUs inside them, and they can execute different tasks in parallel. Intel have the Core 2 processors, AMD have the Opteron and Athlon 64 processors. Right now these are mainly dual core processors, though both Intel and AMD have quad core systems available.

The challenge for software is to be able to make full use of all the cores. Software used to be able to count on clock speeds increasing to make it faster. It can't do that anymore. To make best use of the cores the software has to be designed for it, and for the future.

Why do we need to use this high technology to increase speed? Can access more data (> 4GB)

  • Bigger files
  • Many files at once

For applications such as:

  • Multiple colour analysis; more colours mean more events to get to a statistically significant population, which means much bigger data files.
  • Multiple file analysis; for large population study, you may need to have open and loaded many files at one time and have the ability to switch between them.
